Visiting with family is almost always a happy undertaking, but a Germantown resident received much more joy from a recent trip than she ever expected – thanks to a Maryland Lottery win. The quick stop she made on her way home from Hagerstown resulted in a $50,000 Bonus Match 5 win, the biggest the long-time player has ever enjoyed.
“I stopped for gas and saw that the store sold lottery tickets,” she said on Nov. 18 when she claimed her prize. She stopped at the AC&T Mart in Hagerstown. “I buy Bonus Match 5 tickets every week, so I figured I’d get one while I was there.”
The retail employee was returning from a visit with relatives when the fateful purchase was made. When she scanned her ticket the next day on her lottery app, she was met with an unfamiliar sight.
“I had never seen a ‘check with lottery’ message on the app.” Asking a fellow lottery player provided no explanation, so she went straight to the horse’s mouth.
“So, I called the Lottery and they asked me for the code number on the ticket. A few seconds later the lady told me that I’d won $50,000. I almost dropped my phone,” the winner said.
The Montgomery County woman, even well into the claiming process on Nov. 18, said she still couldn’t really believe her luck. When we asked about her intentions for her winnings she didn’t hesitate, adding it’s all she’d been thinking about in the days since her big win.
Mainly she’s looking forward to laying the groundwork for a fresh start.
AC&T management receives a $500 bonus from the lottery for selling the $50,000 Bonus Match 5 ticket. The Washington County business is at 1701 Dual Highway in Hagerstown.
