Claims $50,000 Pick 5 top prize in April 11 drawing

A Southern Maryland man visited Lottery headquarters on Thursday with a Pick 5 ticket that he’s been hoping to see for years. His lucky combination finally showed up, bringing with it a $50,000 win.

“I’ve been using my address for my Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5 numbers for a long time now.  I’ve come close so often that I resigned myself to the fact that I would never get all of the numbers,” the retired contractor told Lottery officials. Well, never say never!

Checking the April 11 results on the Lottery’s winning numbers phone line the next morning, the St. Mary’s County resident was shocked to hear all five of his numbers announced when the recording got to the evening Pick 5 drawing.

“It was pretty early, so I thought I might be dreaming.” Despite calling back twice for confirmation and hearing the same numbers, he still was not convinced. “I got out of bed without waking my wife and drove to the nearest Lottery store to check it there. When the scanner told me to take my ticket to the lottery, that’s when I really believed.”

The husband and his wife plan to use their $50,000 prize to take their grandkids on a trip.  They’ll share the remainder with the rest of their family. “We’ve been given such a gift with this win. We’re so happy to be able to make life easier and happier for the people we love.”

Life is also a little happier and easier for the owners of the Wawa convenience store at 23141 Three Notch Road in California. The St. Mary’s County business will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning Pick 5 ticket.
