Silver Spring Woman Reduced to Tears of Joy by $1 Million Lottery Win

Excited and crying tears of joy, a Silver Spring woman called her husband May 7 to say she had just won $1 million playing the 100X the Cash scratch-off game.

He immediately left work to be at her side because she was so excited, and he wanted to be around in case she felt lightheaded, he said on May 8 as the two claimed the windfall at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The winner is a Lottery regular who is particularly interested in scratch-offs, but also plays other games. It was a routine win on a Powerball ticket that set things in motion and led to her $1 million prize.

She had a Powerball ticket worth $14 and redeemed it at the 7-Eleven store at 13401 New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring. She used part of those winnings to buy a $10 scratch-off ticket and she played it while still in the store. That ticket won a $20 prize, which she then used to buy the 100X the Cash ticket that made her a millionaire. Prior to that, she said her biggest Lottery prizes were in the $20 to $50 range.

With her winnings, she plans to pay a few bills and rekindle a beauty supply business. The 7-Eleven where she bought the ticket receives a bonus of $1,000 for selling the top-tier winning scratch-off ticket.

The $20 100X the Cash game went on sale in January with seven top prizes. The Silver Spring resident is the fourth person to claim one of those $1 million wins, leaving another three top prizes unclaimed as of May 8. The game also has two unclaimed prizes at each the $10,000 and $50,000 levels, as well as tens of thousands of others ranging from $20 to $5,000.
