Thoughtful Grandma Wins Big Scratch-off Prize

Montgomery County player takes home $100,000 Money Bag Multiplier top prize

An 80-year-old scratch-off player gratefully claimed a $100,000 top prize crying tears of joy last week. She won the big prize playing a Money Bag Multiplier scratch-off.

The Silver Spring resident was running errands earlier in the week in Prince George’s County. As she passed Calverton Liquors in Beltsville, the thought came to her to go in and play some scratch-off games. She chose two of the $10 Money Bag Multiplier games and played them in her car. The lucky lady was shocked when she revealed a $100,000 win on one of the instant tickets.

“I was shaking and kept looking at the ticket,” said the mother and grandmother. “I’ve hit small amounts in the past, but this blew my mind.”

Once the lucky lady gathered herself a bit, she slowly drove to her daughter’s house. Her daughter confirmed the win for her mother. “I thought something was wrong, because she usually calls first,” said the daughter, who accompanied her mother to claim the prize. “It took a minute for it to sink in, but I am so happy for her.”

The winner plans to use some of her prize to help her grandchildren with college expenses. She also plans to make some home improvements and share some of the funds with her daughter.

For selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, Calverton Liquors, located at 11717 Beltsville Drive in Prince George’s County, will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.

The fortunate woman claimed the first $100,000 top prize in the Money Bag Multiplier game. The game has seven more top prizes remaining, along with seven $50,000 prizes, 21 $10,000 prizes, and over 639,400 of additional prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
