Vegas-Bound Retiree Adds $100,000 Scratch-Off Prize to Fun Trip

Lucky Robert Umstad was “nervously filled with excitement” after he won $100,000.

Washington County man will have extra fun on vacation scheduled before his big win

Western Maryland’s Robert Umstad said he was “nervously filled with excitement” as he scratched off a $100,000 Lucky instant ticket and realized he won the $30 game’s top prize.

“I started to scan my ticket and I saw $100,” said the Washington County resident. “Then, I saw there were a lot more zeros. I was really excited.”

The 66-year-old, who is retired from a food production company, plans to spend some of the windfall on an already planned trip to Las Vegas. “I love to go to casinos,” Robert said.

Robert bought his winning instant ticket at Clear Spring Liberty located at 12828 Clear Spring Road in Washington County. “I know the owner there. As soon as I won, I called him to let him know we are both winners,” he said.

The lucky Clear Spring store will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning instant ticket.

The $100,000 Lucky game went on sale in September 2021 and players have claimed two dozen of its $100,000 top prizes. There are still 40 top prizes awaiting discovery along with 25 unclaimed $5,000 prizes.
