Western Maryland Couple Bring Home Big Win

$10 Ultimate Cash scratch-off delivers $100,000 top prize

A 71-year-old Washington County woman can thank her husband for bringing home a winning scratch-off. The couple, who play Lottery games on occasion, revealed a $100,000 win playing the $10 Ultimate Cash game.

A couple of weeks ago, the winner’s husband stopped at Hub City Liquors in Hagerstown to pick up Mega Millions and Powerball tickets and also cash a $10 win from one of his wife’s scratch-offs. He added $10 to the winnings and purchased two $10 games, taking them home to his wife to scratch.

The lucky lady said she was home relaxing when she realized she won big.

“I scratch from left to right and when I came to a number that matched, I was shocked,” said the winner. The shock was because underneath the matching number was a $100,000 prize, the top prize on the game.

“I said to my husband, ‘Does this say what I think it does.’” she said, smiling. “He just said, ‘Yup, it’s $100,000.’”

The husband confirmed the win at another local Lottery retailer. Now confident about their windfall, the excited couple shared the great news with a few family members. The retired Western Maryland residents plan to use the prize for gifts this holiday season and to purchase some new furniture.

The Lottery retailer that sold the top-prize winning instant ticket has reason to celebrate, too. Hub City Liquors located at 1063 Maryland Avenue in Hagerstown will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off. The bonus is 1% of the prize.

The Ultimate Cash game, which went on sale in June, has a top prize of $100,000. There are six remaining, along with five $50,000 prizes, 33 $10,000 prizes and many more ranging from $10 to $1,000.
