A retired Washington, D.C. man and his son claimed $100,000 Sept. 23 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, and, while each had a role in the win, the son insisted all of the credit – and every cent of the prize money – goes to his dad.
“My son was in the neighborhood while he was out running errands,” the former Transit Authority employee said. “He mentioned that he’d be picking up some Lottery tickets, and told me he’d pick one up for me.”
Knowing his dad’s favorite game and number combination very well, the son added his own twist to the purchase that delivered the big prize, requesting two matching Pick 5 tickets with the combination 15670.
“I’ll sometimes buy two tickets with the same numbers. It rarely pays off for me, but it has in the past,” he said.
Later that night, the District dad saw the Lottery’s evening results and recognized his numbers immediately.
“I was amazed. I’ve won before, but never like this, never a top prize… and now I had two of them,” the dad said. The family, he added, had quite the celebration that night.
The two top prize Pick 5 tickets were purchased from the 7-Eleven at 9500 Ruby Lockhart Boulevard in Bowie. The Prince George’s County receives a bonus of $1,000, $500 for each winning ticket.
