Baltimore Man Feels Like Royalty after Big Lottery Win

This Baltimore resident said his $50,000 top prize will go toward home improvements.

Self-proclaimed ‘Bonus Match 5 King’ claims $50,000 top prize

A Baltimore man who nicknamed himself the “Bonus Match 5 King” donned a royal crown after Lottery staffers celebrated his $50,000 top-prize win in the Valentine’s Day drawing.

The 66-year-old bought his lucky ticket at Rosedale Shell located at 7514 Pulaski Highway in Baltimore. Every week, he plays the same numbers, which consist of different birth dates. The retired architect does win with this strategy and claimed a $5,000 prize years ago on Pick 4. However, this time around, he got a lot more bang for his buck by playing the birth dates.

The “Bonus Match 5 King” has a visual impairment, and when asked about how he reacted to winning, he said, “I could actually see for a brief moment. I was so excited!”

He shared the great news with his son and his wife. His wife, however, wasn’t quite as excited as her royal spouse. The newly-crowned king says that he will use his winnings for home repairs, or rather to fix up his castle.

Rosedale Shell will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for being the lucky retailer that sold a $50,000 top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket. This was the seventh top-prize winning ticket sold in the game in 2024.
