Cabin Fever & Family Contribute to Waldorf Woman’s Bonus Match 5 Win

Charles County resident wins $50,000 Bonus Match 5 prize.

Social distancing and staying home have been ways of life for many Marylanders, but being stuck inside isn’t always fun. Getting outside for recreation or a quick errand can provide a needed break or even lead to a $50,000 win. Just take it from a Waldorf woman who became one of the Lottery’s latest top-prize winners while doing just that. Her outing combined a Lottery ticket and a little bit of family luck led to a $50,000 Bonus Match 5 top-prize!

The 60-year-old higher education professional said she has been working from home throughout the pandemic and is itching to return to the office. What was once a perk has now grown a bit stale.

“After more than a year of nothing but remote work, I no longer care for it,” she said.

On June 5, errands provided an excuse to leave the house for some fresh air. While enjoying her time out and about, she also picked up a Bonus Match 5 ticket.

But it wasn’t just any ticket. The longtime Bonus Match 5 player said her numbers are inspired by the ages of family members. Over the years her own children have had their time as lucky numbers. As each has aged out of the available Bonus Match 5 numbers, they’ve been replaced by grandkids, nieces and nephews.

“All of my numbers mean something to me,” she said.

When she checked her ticket later that evening, her series of lucky numbers matched the five winning numbers, delivering a $50,000 top-prize.

“This is a blessing from God,” said the winner, adding that se plans to use the prize money to purchase a new car and make some home improvements.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Charles Station Gas & Convenience located at 3030 St. Charles Parkway in Waldorf. For selling a top-prize Bonus Match 5 ticket the store has earned a $500 retailer bonus.
