Several small wins on scratch-off games led to a $77,777 top prize win on the Lucky 7s Multiplier ticket. A St. Mary’s County man, who said he rarely plays Lottery games, takes home the big prize.
The Charlotte Hall waterman was on his way home from work when he netted good fortune. He stopped in the St. Mary’s Gas Station at 23950 Colton Point Road in Clements for a few necessities, and also decided to play a scratch-off game, he recalled April 30 when he claimed his winnings at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. He bought a $2 ticket and scanned it in the store. It was a $5 win. “Cool,” he remembers thinking. Then he purchased a $5 ticket and won $15 on that one. He used the winnings to buy a $10 game, which led to another $15 win.
“I didn’t want to press my luck, so I was about to leave the store, but then I got the strangest urge to turn around,” the excited player said. “I bought one more ticket, the Lucky 7s Multiplier.”
Good thing he listened to his inner voice because that ticket turned out to be a $77,777 winner. He said he scanned the ticket at the store and the machine went crazy and showed a congratulatory message.
“It was nuts,” laughed the winner. “I told the cashier, ‘I think I broke your machine.’”
The cashier laughed back and confirmed that the scratch-off was, indeed, a $77,777 winner. The player then went home to share the news with his girlfriend.
“He called and told me that he won on a scratch-off game,” she said when she accompanied her boyfriend to claim the prize at Lottery Headquarters. “He just didn’t tell me how much.”
When she came home from work, he showed her the winning ticket.
“I was so happy for him,” she said.
The winner, who is employed as a waterman, said he has no immediate plans for his winnings. Eventually, he said, he will put it to something good, but for now it’s going into savings.
The $10 Lucky 7s Multiplier game launched in May 2025 with 10 top prizes of $77,777, five of which remain unclaimed. There are also 10 unclaimed prizes at the $10,000 level. Hundreds of thousands of prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000 are still available on the ticket as well.
The St. Mary’s Gas Station will be celebrating too, thanks to a $777 bonus.
