Baltimore resident wins long shot Superfecta bet
The dedicated essential workers who deliver our mail, meals, gadgets and groceries are in demand as never before. Some receive a thank you in the form of a smile or a tip. Lady luck showed her appreciation to a Baltimore delivery worker with an $89,811.60 winning Racetrax Superfecta ticket!
The 52-year-old said he has been a Racetrax fan since the Maryland Lottery’s e-horses first rounded the game’s backstretch. He would often buy a ticket along his route to tote with him, checking results as he completed his journey.
In December 2020, the loyal player paused at one of his favorite Lottery retailer stops — Royal Farms #081 in Baltimore — and bought a multiple-drawing Racetrax ticket. He placed a 20-draw Superfecta wager with the Bonus multiplier, betting that horses 8, 9, 10 and 11 would cross the finish line in that order. He later checked the results using the Lottery’s Keno & Racetrax smartphone app. When our fan saw the results of his final race, he was shocked.
“I looked at those results and they looked so familiar,” he said, adding that he then realized “I played those numbers!”
By adding the game’s Bonus multiplier feature, his $22,452.90 payout quadrupled to an $89,811.60 purse! The odds of the win: one in 337,143.
The lucky player plans to invest some of his winnings and also trade his apartment for a house. He will continue playing Racetrax, he told Lottery officials, explaining he enjoys the social aspect of the game. The winner said a group of players still gathers at select locations to play and enjoy the company of friends in a socially distanced manner.
His lucky Lottery purchase took place at Royal Farms #081, located at 2330 Smith Avenue in Baltimore. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more, the Baltimore County convenient store earned an $898.11 retailer bonus from the Lottery.
