Ft. Washington Man Misses Powerball Jackpot by One Number

Big fan of jackpot games brings home $50,000 prize

A Prince George’s County man is happy about his recent third-tier Powerball win, but says he’ll be that much happier when he hits the jackpot. Last week, the lucky man arrived at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim a $50,000 prize he won in the March 31 Powerball drawing.

The big winner plays jackpot games often, even when there’s not a huge jackpot. On a recent Sunday, he stopped at the Oxon Hill Citgo to specifically play Powerball, Mega Millions and a few scratch-off games. He was really excited about the Powerball drawing because the jackpot annuity at the time was estimated at $975 million for the April 1 drawing.

The drawing came and went without the Ft. Washington player checking his tickets until Tuesday, April 2.

“When I checked the ticket using the app on my phone, it said, “Take to retailer,’” he recalled. “So, I pulled out my computer and checked the numbers on the website and saw that I won.”

The anonymous winner matched four white balls and the red Power Ball for a $50,000 prize. He told Lottery officials that he went over the winning numbers five times before it registered that he really won. The single father of adult children said he plans to pay bills with his prize and will keep playing in search of a jackpot win.

The loyal player made his purchase at the Oxon Hill Citgo located at 6104 Oxon Hill Road in Prince George’s County.

The jackpot was hit Saturday, April 6, in Oregon for an annuity of $1.3 billion but the fun continues for Maryland Powerball players. A Jackpot Reset promotion running April 8-21 will award free $2 Mega Millions tickets at random to players who buy a Powerball ticket.
