Silver Spring Man Wins $100,000 Prize on New Rose Gold Scratch-off

A Silver Spring man has some extra gas money after a routine gas run made him a $100,000 winner on the Rose Gold scratch-off. This is the first of eight top prizes to be claimed since the ticket was launched last month.

The winner said he buys games weekly, often getting a few tickets at a time when he’s gassing up.

“I like to scratch,” he said May 8 when he claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The construction worker said he had a streak of memorable scratch-off wins lately, totaling about $1,000 over a three-week period prior to his big win.

On this particular day he was working a job near the 7-Eleven at 1801 Reisterstown Road just outside the Beltway in Pikesville and made his way there to gas up a generator.

He took a few minutes to scratch each ticket carefully with plans to scan and claim any winnings before heading back to work.

On his last ticket he realized immediately he had a $100,000 prize, but remained calm in the moment.

“Oh wow, thank God,” the player recalls thinking after revealing his win.

He took the ticket to the clerk who confirmed he was a top prize winner and instructed him to sign the back of the ticket.

The winner said he hasn’t had a lot of time to think about what he would do with his winnings, but is considering purchasing land in his native El Salvador.

He plans to continue playing Maryland Lottery scratch-offs on those frequent gas trips.

“I’m going for the big one,” he added.

Rose Gold, a $10 game, was launched April 17, and the Silver Spring player won the first of eight $100,000 top prizes, which means seven remain unclaimed, along with four at the second-tier prizes $50,000 level.

The 7-Eleven store receives a $1,000 bonus for selling a top-prize-winning scratch-off.
