The Week in Winners: Powerball Jackpot Reaches $1 Billion as Maryland Players Land Big Bucks

Players across the state won nearly $28.2 million in the seven days ending Oct. 31

The Powerball jackpot kept growing last week, hitting the $1 billion mark for the Monday, Oct. 31 drawing. But the two biggest Lottery wins in Maryland were second- and third-tier Powerball prizes of $1 million and $200,000, respectively, in Bowie and Columbia.

Another six people bought Powerball tickets worth $50,000 each in Abingdon, Baltimore, Edgemere, Hampstead, Laurel and Waldorf. Seven of the eight big Powerball tickets remained unclaimed as of Oct. 31.

Meanwhile, Monday’s $1 billion Powerball jackpot is the second-largest in the history of the game and fifth-largest in U.S. lottery history. The cash option is $497.3 million. If there is no jackpot winner in Monday’s drawing, the estimated annuity value for the next drawing on Wednesday, Nov. 2, will be $1.2 billion.

Including the eight big Powerball prizes, 37 winning tickets worth $10,000 or more were sold or redeemed in the seven days ending Oct. 31, and the Maryland Lottery paid nearly $28.2 million in prizes during that span.

Winners of prizes larger than $25,000 must redeem their tickets at the Maryland Lottery Customer Resource Center in Baltimore, which is open by appointment only. Prizes of up to $5,000 can be claimed at any of more than 400 Expanded Cashing Authority Program (XCAP) locations. All Maryland Lottery retailers are authorized to redeem tickets up to and including $600. More information is available on the How To Claim page of mdlottery.com.
