Pair of best friends each win $50,000
An odometer reading helped put two friends from Bowie and Upper Marlboro into the Maryland Lottery Winner’s Circle this week. The best friends each won $50,000 by playing the same mileage number on separate Pick 5 tickets.
The lucky duo visited Highbridge Village Market located at 6021 High Bridge Road in Bowie. They normally play Pick 4, but realized that there were enough numbers in the odometer reading for a Pick 5 bet. One half of the duo used the term, “Stunned,” and the other said, “Couldn’t believe it,” when describing their reactions to the big win in the Oct. 4 evening drawing. Their lucky number was 83412. They’ve both shared the great news with their respective families.
One winner is a federal government employee looking to retire within the next few years. The other winner is currently retired and drives for Uber. When asked of their plans for enjoying the windfall, they say that they plan to pay off bills.
Their Lottery retailer, Highbridge Village Market, is doubly lucky. The Prince George’s County store will receive one $500 bonus for each $50,000 top-prize winning ticket that it sold.
