Financial Planner’s Keno Fun Yields $64,000 Prize

Virginia man placed same 10-spot bet as friend, both win!

Meeting up with friends to play Keno together at bars, restaurants and other Lottery retailers is a common practice for many loyal players. Two friends who did so enjoyed unexpected results on May 2 when they each won $64,000 on a 10-spot wager on the same Keno game.

A Springfield, Va., man who works as a financial planner arrived at Maryland Lottery headquarters one day after his friend to claim his $64,000 prize won on a $36 ticket bought at Talbert’s Ice & Beverage Service in Bethesda. The two men each hit nine of the 10 numbers and, because they added the Super Bonus feature to their ticket, multiplied their prizes. They each played 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 76, 77, 78, 79 and 80 for three drawings and won in the final game.

The 49-year-old father of one also plays Powerball, Mega Millions and Pick 4 in Maryland and other states and has won smaller prizes in those games. He hadn’t yet settled on plans for this windfall when he claimed his prize.

Both men kept their Lottery luck a secret at the time they won and afterward. They say they plan to keep meeting to play Lottery games together and will likely play the same set of numbers again, the winner said.

Their lucky Lottery retailer earns a bonus for selling a winning Keno ticket of $10,000 or more. Talbert’s Ice & Beverage Service located at 5234 River Road in Bethesda earns a bonus of $640 for its role in the big win.
