Millersville man uncovers top prize in Deluxe Crossword game
Who knew that pursuing a Saturday night hobby at home can result in a $50,000 windfall!
A Millersville man and his girlfriend have the tradition of buying scratch-offs throughout the week and waiting to play them during the weekend. When they find a winning instant ticket, they cash it in and buy more Lottery scratch-offs.
This time, however, the Anne Arundel County resident discovered that his prize on the sixth edition of the Deluxe Crossword game was too large to claim at a Lottery retailer. The happy player stopped by Lottery headquarters this week and visited the Winner’s Circle.
“We never thought we would win anything this big. We just play as a hobby,” he told Lottery officials.
A lucky dime plays a big role in the Lottery fun, said the construction salesman. He uses a dime to scratch-off the latex and, if he reveals a winning instant ticket, he keeps that dime in use. When a dime doesn’t find a winner, it is thrown into a jar and never used again for scratch-offs. “We have a jar on the dresser that is filled with ‘bad’ dimes,” he said.
The lucky Millersville retailer that sold the top-prize winning scratch-off is Northway Liquors located at 8101 Veterans Highway. The Anne Arundel County business received a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize winning instant ticket.
This was the ninth and last top prize of $50,000 claimed since this edition of the Deluxe Crossword game went on sale in June 2021. One $10,000 prize awaits discovery along with multiple prizes ranging from $5 to $1,000.
