Steak dinner celebration on horizon for player, his girlfriend and his mom
A previous personal-best Maryland Lottery win of $2,000 was blown out of the water when a player from Hyattsville won $50,000 on the April 20 Bonus Match 5 drawing.
After the drawing, he checked his ticket using the Maryland Lottery app on his phone, and, instead of getting a dollar amount for his winnings, he got a message to take it to Lottery headquarters.
“I figured it would be big,” he said April 23 after claiming his top-tier prize.
A self-described casual player, he said he had a few extra dollars in his pocket and decided to play a series of Bonus Mach 5 quick pick combinations. One of the bonuses of Bonus Match 5 there’s a discount for buying in bulk, so he got nine combinations for $6. A single combination costs $1.
And when the drawing took place, one of his combinations matched exactly for the big win. One of the items on his post-win agenda is to treat his mom and girlfriend to a steak dinner.
Sharing in the wealth is the 7-Eleven store at 8905 Rhode Island Avenue in College Park, where the winning ticket was purchased. The store receives a bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize total.
