Jackpot Chaser Wins $100,000 Powerball Prize

Chestertown player claims third-tier prize from December drawing

The Powerball jackpot is a whopping $730 million for Wednesday night’s drawing and players are extremely excited. However, even back in December when the jackpot was only $304 million, players were already excited and winning, too.

Among the winners is “Lady Jackpot Chaser,” who just claimed a $100,000 third-tier prize from the Dec. 19 Powerball drawing. “I’m living proof that anybody can win, even when the odds of winning are so high,” said the Eastern Shore resident.

“Lady Jackpot Chaser” plays when the jackpot begins to grow. The Chestertown woman told Lottery officials that she was running errands last month when she saw the jackpot sign in the window of Royal Farms #250 located at 859 High Street in Chestertown.

“I thought, ‘Well, it’s getting up there, let me play,’” said “Lady Jackpot Chaser.”

The lucky player bought her tickets but didn’t check them until a week later when she was going over her father’s scratch-off games. Her big win came on a $6 quick-pick ticket with the Power Play multiplier feature.

“I googled the numbers and was in disbelief when I saw all of my matching numbers,” said the big winner. “I wasn’t sure how much the win really was and had my husband check again for me.”

Because “Lady Jackpot Chaser” matched four white balls and the Powerball, she won $50,000. The Power Play multiplier she added to her ticket doubled her prize to $100,000.

In shock over her Lottery luck, the insurance claims adjuster was eager to claim her prize but had to wait until after the holidays to do so. The 51-year-old mother of two adult children said she plans to save most of her winnings and use some for home improvements.

The Powerball jackpot began its rise last fall after being hit on Sept. 16 in New York. The jackpot for Wednesday night’s drawing stands at $730 million with a cash option of $546 million. If won, this would be the 4th largest jackpot in Powerball game history and 6th largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history.

Powerball tickets cost $2 per game, with Power Play tickets costing $3 per game. Powerball tickets are sold in 44 states, Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. You can find your Powerball tickets locally at one of the over 4,000 Lottery retailers across the state.
