The Week in Winners: Fort Washington Has A New Millionaire Thanks to Mega Millions Drawing

Players across the state won more than $29.9 million during week ending July 30

As the Mega Millions jackpot continues to grow, the game produced another millionaire in Maryland on July 25 in Fort Washington. An additional 29 players across the state won prizes of $10,000 or more playing a variety of Lottery games in the past week.

The Mega Millions jackpot was last hit on April 18, when a player in New York won a $20 million jackpot. Since then, nobody has hit the jackpot which is now $1.05 billion for the Aug. 1 drawing. During the current run, three Mega Millions players in Maryland have bought winning tickets worth $1 million or more, including the Fort Washington player in the July 25 drawing. The other second-tier winners of $1 million or more were in Baltimore and Catonsville.

Also since April, another 18 players have matched four of the five regular balls plus the Mega Ball for prizes between $10,000 and $40,000. Seven of those prizes remain unclaimed as of July 31. The unclaimed prizes were on tickets bought in Elkridge, Grantsville, Lanham, Rockville, Towson and Upper Marlboro (two).

Mega Millions has nine prize tiers. All five balls with no Mega Ball pays $1 million, and a match on four of five regular balls plus the Mega Ball pays $10,000.

Mega Millions drawings are at 11 p.m. every Tuesday and Friday.

Mega Millions has a Megaplier ticket add-on that costs $1 and increases the amount of non-jackpot wins by a randomly selected multiplier.

In all, 30 tickets worth $10,000 or more were sold or redeemed in the seven days ending July 30, and the Lottery paid more than $29.9 million in prizes during that span.

Winners of prizes larger than $25,000 must redeem their tickets at the Maryland Lottery Claims Center in Baltimore, which is open by appointment only. Prizes of up to $5,000 can be claimed at any of more than 400 Expanded Cashing Authority Program (XCAP) locations. All Maryland Lottery retailers are authorized to redeem tickets up to and including $600. More information is available on the How To Claim page of mdlottery.com.
